Century Casinos Inc revealed that it has broken ground on its new land-based casino and hotel development at Century Casino Caruthersville in Missouri.

The projects are expected to open late in 2024 pending the final approval of the Missouri Gaming Commission plus state and local authorities.

Century Casino Caruthersville

The Century Casino Caruthersville will offer 650 slot machines ( with the possibility of an expansion of up to 140 more slots ), table moors betting online, a deli, and a bar. It will have a 38-room hotel which will be situated between the existing pavilion and the new casino. The hotel tower will have a scenic view of the Mississippi River and the city of Caruthersville.

The project has an estimated cost of $51.9 million which will be financed by VICI Properties Inc which Century Casinos entered into an amendment to its Master Lease. Annual rent under the Master Lease will increase by $4.2 million after the addition of the Caruthersville project. By virtue of the Master Lease, VICI will own the real estate improvements associated with the Caruthersville development.

After the groundbreaking ceremony, Century Casinos proceeded with the opening of Farmstead, a 36-room hotel whose land and building the company acquired in July 2021. Century Casinos then renovated the entire building into a contemporary Missouri farmhouse style-hotel at a cost of approximately $3.7 million. It will be the only hotel in Caruthersville until the new hotel at the land-based Century Casio Caruthersville is completed.

The Last Remaining Riverboat Casinos in Missouri

By virtue of these projects, Century Casinos is transforming Century Casino Caruthersville from the last remaining riverboat casino in the state to a land-based destination resort that has the potential to attract customers from even further into Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas. With its updated amenities, it will also provide its existing clients with a better casino experience.

The Mississippi River hit record-low waters in October 2022 and made the relocation to a temporary land-based site necessary because the riverboat casino could no longer be accessed from the barge.

The Missouri Gaming Commission approved the temporary relocation that same month. Century Casinos is targeting the end of this year to relocate the casino floor from the riverboat and barge on the Mississippi River to a new temporary location in the pavilion.
